Altering a Halter Dress Strap Halter dresses are sexy and fashionable in nature. You can easily drape a halter dress to attend casual events like proms and weddings. Readymade dresses can however be ill fitting since different women and girls have different body sizes and shapes. Since they are made of pieces of fabrics looping around the neck to keep it in place, you might find some hanging too low or are too high.

However, it is possible to alter the straps on your halter dress to make it fit your body type by following very easy steps. First, locate the seam of one strap that connects the dress, this seam should be on the inside where the strap is stitched to both the right and left sides of the dress. Using a seam ripper, rip the stitches carefully to disconnect the strap from the dress. To make sure you get the measurements right, put on your dress and adjust the strap to your fit. Pin the strap to mark the fitting location then remove the dress.

The next step to get your fitting dress is threading. Choose the closest thread color to the original thread used in stitching the dress. Ensure the thread has a small knot at the end when on the needle to make sure it catches your sewing. Remove the pin locating the right position and sew your strap onto the dress up through the strap and dress and down the same. Repeat this till your strap is firm. Let the threading finish be on the inside and tie a knot to hold the sewing after cutting the thread and your alteration is done.

So, you don’t have to buy another halter dress just because the one you have doesn’t fit your body type. Basic simple sewing skills can save you a lot of stress so go for it and make it fit you like it’s supposed to.
